The Delicacy is the story of a rare and exotic food, the sea urchin, and how it’s harvested, how it’s eaten, and the role it plays in nature and the lives of those who bring it to the table. At the heart of the film is a group of Santa Barbara divers including Jim Marshall, with nearly 50 years of experience, and Stephanie Mutz, the only female sea urchin diver who shifted the distribution directly into the hands of consumers.
From the creators of the SOMM films, The Delicacy takes the viewer from the coastal waters of California to the plates of high-end restaurants as it follows one of the most sought after foods in the world gathered by the most dangerous profession. With commentary from some of the most influential and prolific voices in the culinary world including Andrew Zimmern and Ray Isle, The Delicacy is part food film, part adventure film, and part nature documentary.
For these special screenings of THE DELICACY, we are offering a mutli-course uni menu. For those who choose this menu, the evening will start with drinks, cheese and charcuterie, followed by the film, followed by the uni menu. We like to think of the film as an uni aperitif! You can choose another menu than the uni menu for this screening, but why would you?
