Food is everywhere in Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away.
To begin, we acknowledge that the mouthwatering food in Spirited Away is actually a metaphor for the evils of capitalist greed and over-consumption. But Metro was founded on the belief that gathering around great food and great movies with people you love is one of life’s true joys. So we invite you to ignore said metaphor for one night only and treat yourself to the magnificent bounty of food inspired by Spirited Away, delivered to your seat at the moment it appears on screen.
The menu travels from the bountiful forbidden feast of glistening meats, dumplings, and vegetables (yes, the one that ultimately transforms Chihiro’s parents into pigs) to the colorful konpeitō candies scattered for the soot sprites, Lin’s steamed red bean buns, Haku’s simple onigiri rice balls, the River Spirit’s herbal dumpling, No-Face’s sumptuous banquet, and, finally, Zeniba’s quiet, restorative tea party with Kasutera cake and sweets. Each dish was conceived and rendered by artists who clearly appreciated the good stuff in life.
The meal and the film will unfold together, with each dish timed to its corresponding scene.
This will not simply be dinner followed by a movie.
